THQ logo - Image 1Those keeping up with the current video game industry, will probably notice that the current trend is for bigger companies to acquire smaller ones to help stimulate the company’s growth. However, not all video game companies feel the same way.

In an interview with Reuters, THQ’s Chief Executive Brian Farrell made it clear that “M&A [mergers and aquisitions] is not a required or necessary thing in order to grow.”

He also pointed out that the current buy-outs and mergers such as the currently pending Activision-Vivendi deal and EA’s US 2 billion offer for Take-Two Interactive opens up a number of options for THQ:

It’s going to create some opportunities because we are actively looking at each developer, each license out there and with our size now we have the ability to be more aggressive than more massive, slower firms

Interestingly enough, Farrell selected not to speak about any financial forecasts (which might have lead to his conclusions), instead saying that an updated outlook will be released alongside the THQ’s fiscal fourth quarter report (ending in March) comes out. Perhaps we’ll also be hearing more regarding the company’s future plans then.

Panasonic Phone - Image 1First that comes to mind when plasma display is mentioned is a gigantic high-definition TV. Panasonic intends to change that with the introduction of a new low-voltage plasma technology that mobile phones will soon employ - a move that’ll eventually unify the HDTV and cell phone divisions of the company.

Costly HDTVs are going to be much more intimate with cell phones by sharing state-of-the-art screens.

Mark Balsama, former National Marketing Manager of the Communication Systems Group for Panasonic, rolled up his sleeves from retirement to spearhead this development. Panasonic will gain aid with the help of AbleComm Inc. which will lend its technology after handing out the KX-TVS50 voicemail for Panasonic over 10 years ago.

During his announcement, Balsama was quoted saying:

Many of our new phones will have vibrant color plasma screens that can run on just 1.5 volts and won’t require any additional wiring or special power supplies. We’ll be able to put plasma in cell phones, business phones, consumer phones, corded phones, cordless phones, and even door intercom monitors and fax machines. We’ll revolutionize the consumer electronics business, as Panasonic has done many times before.
