Asus Eee PC - Image 1Here’s something that you’re going scream “Eeeeeee!” over (sorry, couldn’t resist): Asus Eee Personal computers powered with Windows XP are now spotted at Best Buy’s online store, and the best part? It has the same price as its Linux-flavored counterpart, which has a pricetag of a mere US 399.

Surprised? You can bet that we are too. Since the Asus Eees are built with being economical in mind, consumers can’t anticipate groundbreaking features from these babies. But nevertheless, these notebook PCs are small and sleek, nice enough to lug around and take notes with.

Here’s its basic features: it comes in a shiny black case, with a 7-inch display with 800 x 480 resolution. As for its innards, the diminutive notebook has a 4GB shock-proof flash hard drive, and has a built-in web cam and microphone for your basic chat and video conferencing needs.

Allowed, it’s not the most powerful notebook out there, but now that it’s powered by Windows, you can bet that it won’t fail to serve its purpose: computing on the go.

Crytek's Harald Seeley: PS3, 360 CryENGINE 2 to look near high settings on PC - Image 1

Doubting the title? Well, don’t. According to Crytek’s Harald Seeley, CryENGINE2 caters to specific consoles such as Sony’s PlayStation 3 and Microsoft’s Xbox 360. In an interview, Seeley claims that their engine for the consoles would look closely to the high setting visuals of a Personal computer when playing games.

Seeley said that they definitely tailor their engine specifically to each platform. In order for them to do so, they had to take into account various factors. These include video hardware abilities of PCs and consoles, memory budgets, “the lack of a hard disk on some models, and the acceptance of stipulation of the hardware vendors themselves.”

Once everything was put into place, Seeley said that they “expect the final outcome will result in games that look like they’re running at high settings, or almost high settings, on a Personal computer.” The only challenge they came across was with the memory limitations of the consoles when they were converting the AI systems.

As for the console differences, Seeley favored the PS3 engine that they were developing over the Xbox 360. This is what he said about it:

Well there is no doubt that porting our engine to the PlayStation 3 is the more challenging of our two ongoing conversion projects, but that works to our advantage in the end.

We feel certain we have the ability to get the most that is possible out of that platform, and therefore PS3 games which run on our engine in the future will definitely stand significantly apart from other games that don t.

Curious to know more about what Harald Seeley had to say in the interview? Don’t worry. You can read the whole interview log by clicking the link below.

Pseudo Interactive's last project before shut down: Carmageddon - Image 1We all learned just a couple of days ago that development studio Pseudo Interactive has finally closed its doors to operations. This was brought about when SCi and subsidiary Eidos Interactive came across problems and dropped several projects.

Speaking of which, also mentioned in that report was a list of projects that have been canned because of the closing. One of them was a secret title that was being worked on by Pseudo.

This might be a bit heartbreaking, but we just got word that it was actually Carmageddon. The title was originally released back in 1997 for Windows and Mac.

Given its gameplay and the tag line “The Racing Game for the Chemically Imbalanced”, it’s no wonder that Carmageddon was the only game banned in the UK prior to Manhunt 2. Our source added that this is actually part of a bigger restructuring plans that eventually led to the killing off 14 projects and laying off 25 of SCi’s total workforce.

The Protoss Carrier gets Striker Escorts in StarCraft 2 - Image 1One of the most fun things of any RTS sequel is being able to play around with both old and new units at the same time. Fans of the Starcraft series will certainly be able to do that with StarCraft 2. Blizzard has given us a glimpse of what to anticipate with certain units in the game, courtesy of blue poster Karune.

For example, the Protoss Carrier has gotten a firepower upgrade in the form of Striker Escorts. Carriers might have up to four Escorts concentrating fire on a given target along with the standard issue Interceptors. Unfortunately, they cost resources and only last 45 seconds long, so players will have to make wise choices as to when to deploy them.

Regarding Zerg Infestors, Blizzard is still discussing the possibility of whether or not to give them the ability to infest fellow Zerg buildings. Corruptors, on the other hand, can infest any airborne unit, even those rendered that way by Anti-Gravity. The Zerg Roach unit is a ranged unit, though currently it can only hit ground units.

Blizzard also mentioned that Medivacs tend to heal just like the Medic unit: they can only heal one unit at a time. And in case you’re wondering why the Protoss Colossus has eschewed “sliding” thermal lances in favor of beam arrays, Blizzard has an explanation for that: it’s the company’s attempt at giving players a more interesting AoE template to micromanage.

Stay tuned for more StarCraft 2 Q & A sessions by Karune as Blizzard rolls them out!

Gas Powered Games has finally found a publisher for its team-based action-RTS-RPG hybrid, Demigod. The developer announced this day that it had reached a publishing agreement with Sins of a Solar Empire publisher, Stardock.

As with Stardock’s other games, Demigod will be released without any on-disc copy protection. While this practice has earned the publisher some flak when it was first introduced, Stardock’s titles have consistently gained both critical and commercial success.

Demigod has also been budgeted for a lot of post-release feature updates. The game’s release date has been changed to February 2009, however, in order to fully support a public beta that will begin this summer. For now, you can check out these new screenshots:
