Activision officially out of E3 Media & Business Summit - Image 1 This piece of news might signal troubled times for long-running video game conference, E3: Activision has announced that it won’t be attending this year’s event.

Though it’s still early to say as to how this will affect the event, it’s certainly not good news for E3 as Activision’s presence will certainly be missed.

Activision is the company behind ginormous game franchises such as Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, and Tony Hawk. Its absence shouldn’t be taken lightly as it’s one of the oldest and biggest studios around, and is behind major games across all platforms, including the Computer.

Here’s just a small sampling of how massive they are: Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock alone was one of the biggest games last year; Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, another giant success from late last year, is still on top of Xbox Live Activity.

Activision didn’t state why it was bowing out of the event, but they did give the following statement: “After careful consideration, for business reasons Activision has decided not to participate in any official E3 activities. We wish the ESA best of luck with the show.”

Screenshot of Gala Mobile Inc.'s Boot Camp mobile game - Image 1While shooter games have been a relatively common fare on the mobile platform, not a lot of titles put innovation into the genre. However, Gala Mobile Inc. announced a new on the internet shooter game including a persistent character and player ladder features.

Entitled Boot Camp, the game was developed with Web ENG Korea Co. Ltd. and features a top-down orientation with online multiplayer battles for up to 16 players. It also includes a character growth aspect as well as a player ladder system.

While Boot Camp was intended as a multiplayer game, you can also play the single-player offline feature to help you hone your shooting skills. It also includes a user-friendly chat system, friend list, ranks, player ladders and guilds list.

The game also introduces two interesting systems to allow players to keep tabs on one another and to ensure overall game security. A badge system will grant players to show everyone their achievements within the game, and the CyberCOPS filter system will provide a safe gaming environment once the game is fully implemented.

Boot Camp will be available in Japan this Might and will be free for the first month of release. A monthly fee of 415 (around US 3.50) will be placed on the game afterwards. There’s been no word whether this title will be available in North America or Europe, but there’s no harm in wishing so.
