Capcom announces Lost Planet movie under development - Image 1Well, it looks like we now know what David Hayter might be up to after his stint in Metal Gear Solid 4. Capcom has unveiled at E3 that they’re now working on a motion picture based on their Lost Planet title, originally launched to the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Personal computer platforms.

Nope, Hayter won’t be playing Wayne Holden. Capcom will instead be tapping him to write Lost Planet’s script. To his credit, Hayter has previously worked on the screenplay of 2000’s X-Men movie and on the original screenplay of the upcoming Watchmen motion picture.

No further details were announced regarding the Lost Planet motion picture, save that its plot was described as a cautionary tale with an environmental twist. Warner Bros. is the movie’s current distributor.

In line with this news, Capcom president Kenzo Tsujimoto also noted that the company plans to create several more game-to-film franchises in the near future. Jovovich-licious news for the fans we imagine, at least if Capcom decides to make something similar for Resident Evil 5’s launch.

On the other hand, Monster Hunter could use a good film, as would Mega Man. Preferably based on the X era of the storyline. Cel-shaded would be nice, but I realize I’m getting ahead of myself here. That’s all the details the company has announced for the moment. Drop by again in case we run into any more information.

Wing Commander, FreeSpace, and Lancer fans now hear this: Paradox Interactive has dared to announce several PC-exclusive projects at the console-centric E3 Media & Business Summit, and gladly, some of them appear to be quite promising in concept.

We’re told by the Swedish video game publisher that space action simulation Dark Horizon is apt to faithfully recreate the space simulation mood with classical mechanics intact.

Dogfights are more than a certainty with Dark Horizon, though the developers will only offer 22 missions along the action-centric adventure in space. Luckily, there has been a mention of Dark Horizon’s parallelism with other space combat classics.

Fredrik Wester, executive VP of Paradox, was quoted to have said, “Dark Horizon follows along the same lines of classics like Wing Commander and Freelancer, and it will be a great addition to our portfolio this year.”

Interesting prospect, but how will Dark Horizon fare in a rather meticulous market? See for yourself. We’ve managed to extract a gameplay trailer from Paradox Interactive, and it sits ready for your viewing below. Dark Horizon has been announced to ship to shelves by August 2008.

Straight from the floors of the E3 2008 summit comes three awesome features on the highly anticipated blockbuster of 2008: Will Wright’s Spore. The strategy, simulation computer game has been in development for years (ages for some fans, we reckon), and the final weeks to its ship date could be killer after lazing your eyes on these specials.

First up is a presentation hosted by none other than the legendary Will Wright himself as part of the Electronic Arts press conference in the business-centric gaming event. If you’ve had any doubts to how massive the game’s potential base is, this presentation will knock the air out of you.

Like how Wright pointed out, all the gamers in the world with Spore Creature Creator built as many one-of-a-kind creatures there are on Earth and uploaded them to Sporepedia in a timespan of 18 days.

Eighteen. It took God 7 days, and if you tried to make a statistic out of the figures, it could tell you that the capability of all the Spore fans in the world was at 38 of God’s efforts on our world.

Wicked sick. And speaking of wicked sick stuff, what about the trailer he promised?

Excited already? You haven’t seen it all yet. EA also presented another sneak peek at the game’s other stages, in close-to-publishing quality.

Well, there you’ve it. 2008 may very well be the year of Spore. We’ll see if crowds swarm retail when Spore ships to September 5, 2008.

A lot of real-time strategy fans are excited about this generation’s installment of EA’s much-loved Command & Conquer Red Alert series. Everyone wants to know about the latest on the Allied-Soviet war, but people are more curious now than ever before about the latest faction: the Empire of the Rising Sun.

For months, details on these Red Alert 3 (Computer, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360)’s Oriental chaps have been kept tightly under wraps, but that’s outta the window now as the game’s E3 trailer puts them on the spotlight.

The Empire of the Rising Sun seems to have a lot of advanced gear such as amphibious mechs, planes that can dive underwater to avoid anti-aircraft fire, and loaded infantry. They also seem to be the ruthless types who are willing to use brutal tactics to beat the enemy as evidenced by the narrator. In any case, see the clip and be amazed.

If you’ve been wondering whether to stow away some cash to pick up Crytek’s latest addition to the Crysis ‘verse, perhaps this new trailer from the 2008 E3 Media & Business Summit might help you reconsider.

Though some segments of the gameplay montage are identical to segments that appeared on an earlier trailer of Crysis Warhead, this version is a lot longer and also comes with full audio and voiceovers.

Yes, voiceovers. If you can get your mind past the Korean accented English, the lack of tactical cover, and the grenade rushes past Korean hardpoints, you’d notice that a certain voice stands out from the enemy’s taunts.

For sure, it’s not theirs, and we’ll tell you one thing: if that’s Psycho’s voice, then it’s a few stone throws off the attitude we’ve all been familiar with in the original Crysis.

Check it out for yourself. And yes, we noticed the player hasn’t died from constant damage. I guess demonstrations don’t rule out the restrictions of God mode when playing an easier level than Delta.
