New screens and details are out for Borderlands (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC), an ambitious new FPS-slash-RPG game from Gearbox Software. Last time we heard from the project was news of its delay, so hearing from the studio again comes as a comfort.

If you remember reports on this game from last year, it’s being touted as the next large FPS game, with close (maybe even over?) half a million weapons available in the arsenal, thanks to a new content generation system it’s adapted. According to the press release, the game’s arsenal of “hundreds of thousands of weapons” will each have their own “unique manufacturers, specifications and advantages.”

The game is also said to to have a multiplayer design that rewards players for “executing advanced strategies and tactical maneuvers,” and they’ll progress their levels RPG-style, needing to fight enemies to gain experience and proficiency.

The PR also placed some emphasis on Borderlands’ “spectacular explosions,” which do indeed seem spectacular, if the screenshots below are anything to judge the game on. We’re certainly looking forward to seeing some gameplay vids. Here are the screens, enjoy!
