Saints Row 2 - Image 1Australia’s OFLC has been known to be one of the strictest regulatory bodies in the world when it comes to violent content in games. Those expecting THQ’s upcoming Saints Row 2 (Xbox 360, Windows, PlayStation 3) could breathe sighs of relief because it’s been cleared for its scheduled launch.

THQ said that the OFLC gave Saint’s Row 2 an MA 15 rating. The publisher credits this to the over the top violence which seems to have been done in a tasteful enough manner to pass the censors.

Along with that, THQ shared some of the cool missions that you’ll be doing in the game. All the stuff mentioned in previous trailers have been reiterated along with some others you mustn’t have heard about yet. Mentioned in an IGN article were the following objectives:

  • Septic Avenger- spray nasty sewage on buildings and people
  • Crowd Control- protect a celebrity from mobs of violent fans
  • Fight Club- join an underground bloodsport ring

Other features:

  • Insurance fraud- Put yourself or a friend in planted accidents, duck danger at the last second, and collect some sweet insurance dough.
  • Insane diversions- streaking, car surfing, tagging, base jumping, stunt jumps and loads more.
  • Escort missions- More than being some glorified taxi driver, the escort missions in this game are stated to be similar to those in the original Saints Row. Take in clients and help them steer clear of press, jealous spouses, private detectives, and more.

Asus Eee PC - Image 1Alarmed by the overnight success reached by the ultraportable laptop market, pioneered by small personal manufacturers such as Asus and Everex, big-name companies have expressed their concern about the small machines gobbling up most of the revenue in the PC market.

The low prices and apparent popularity of the new breed of ULPC computers, such as the Asus Eee Personal computer, appears to threaten the market of Computer makers who have built machines on the premise that the more powerful and high-priced a machine is, the more attractive it is to the consumer.

“When I speak to PC vendors, the No. 1 question I get is, how do I compete with these netbooks when what we really want to do is sell Computers that cost a lot more money?” said J.P. Gownder of Forrester Research.

Some major companies decided to cope with the new trend, churning out their own low-cost laptops as well, such as Hewlett-Packard, the manufacturer behind the recently-released HP Mini-note. “Our competitors proved there’s a pretty good market,” stated HP’s notebook product manager Robert Baker.

Not everyone are too impressed about the market’s new love for small, low-cost machines. Fujitsu, in particular, is wary about the relatively small profit margin the ULPCs offer. “It s a product that essentially has no margin,” said senior director of mobile product management Paul Moore.

Mobile computer enthusiasts will certainly face an interesting trend in motion. Will the introduction of ULPCs cause a major change in the market? Only time can tell.
